What are the non-recurring costs associated with adding a subscriber?

Some of the steps listed here are the subscriber's responsibility, and some of them are performed by the Coop. In either case, the cost is of course ultimately paid directly or indirectly by the subscriber.

Pay a nonrecurring price to Qwest to get the subloop connected. This is $59.88 for installation of an unbundled distribution loop or $56.65 for installation of a shared distribution subloop.

Purchase an SDSL or ADSL modem. These are often available on eBay for prices between $10 and $50.

Get inside wiring done in the subscriber's house, to connect the DSL modem to the network interface device.

Allocate a port of the DSLAM to the subscriber. Place the order with Qwest for the subloop. Get the subscriber's information programmed into our MRTG system. Get the DSLAM configured.

Purchase a DSL router. Typically $80 to $180.

Install ethernet cards if necessary, in the subscriber's computers.
