Welcome to your new DSL service from the Ruby Ranch Internet Cooperative!
Here are some of the basic things you need to know.
Your computer or router should be set up as follows:
| IP address | 207.174.131.________ |
| Netmask | 255.255.255.252 |
| Default gateway | 207.174.131.________ |
| primary DNS | 206.168.115.162 |
| secondary DNS | 206.168.112.1 |
| SMTP server | SMTP.RRIC.NET |
If you have not already done so, you should print out, read and sign the terms-of-service subscriber agreement and the letter of authorization.
If you have not already joined the Coop member discussion list, you should do so.
If you have not already obtained a DSL modem, you should do so.
If you have not already had your inside wiring done, you should get it done.
You will need to pay the Coop for the activation of your subloop by Qwest, if you have not already done so.
If you have not already done so, you should obtain a DSL router. Please print out and study the page What you need to be able to use DSL. You can help the Coop to do remote troubleshooting. In your DSL router (assuming you have obtained and installed one of the recommended models), please do the following:
You should print out and keep a copy of the troubleshooting page for future reference.
At present, the router that connects the Coop to the Internet is programmed to block certain categories of incoming traffic. This is intended to shield you from some categories of attack by outsiders. If you want this blocking turned off (if you want all possible types of Internet traffic to be able to reach your computer) please let the Coop know and the blocking can be turned off for your IP address.
